Although I teach the Electrical Apprenticeship Program, I honestly believe that to become successful in my class and others, one must be good at math, not afraid of it. I spend the first three days making all my students comfortable with using a calculator at an advanced level, how to manipulate equations properly and correctly, and everything else they should have learned in grade 6!
It pays off in the long run as most problems they would struggle with are mathematical errors, but they would have no idea. Showing students a few Ted Talks and other videos that have nothing to do with electrical, gets them interested, as well as knowing that this material will not count for marks.... yet!
